Sim Dae-seung

Sim Dae-seung (沈大承, 1556 – 1606) was a military officer and righteous army leader of the Mid-Joseon period. His family seat was Cheongsong (靑松), his pen name was Ian, and his courtesy name was Deokbo (德甫). During the reign of King Seonjo, he served as Military Training Judge (訓鍊院判官) and Director of the Office of Military Supplies (軍資監正), and he was posthumously appointed Left Royal Secretary (左承旨).

During the Imjin War in 1592, he raised a righteous army together with Gwak Jae-u, served as vanguard commander, and drove back Japanese forces. During the First Battle of Jinju, he took part as vanguard commander of the relief force.¹ He was a native of South Gyeongsang's Uiryeong.²
