Gotō Harumasa

Gotō Harumasa (Japanese: 五島玄雅, Tenbun (1548) – Keichō 17 (April 8, 1612)) was a military commander and daimyō who was active from the Sengoku period through the Edo period. He was the first lord of Fukue Domain in Hizen Province and the 21st head of the Gotō family.

He was the third son of Uku Sumisada and the uncle of Gotō Sumiharu (五島純玄), the 20th head of the clan. His wife was a daughter of Ōkubo Iesugu, and they had two daughters. His common names were Magojirō and Magoemon, and his court rank was Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade and Governor of Awaji.

When his nephew Sumiharu died of illness at the front camp in Joseon in 1594, Harumasa took his place as the next head of the clan. He led the Gotō forces and took part in several battles. At the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, he maintained neutrality. After the battle, he was allowed by Tokugawa Ieyasu to keep his domain, and he took the position of first lord of Fukue Domain.

He died in 1612 at the age of 65. He was succeeded by his cousin Uku Morinaga (宇久盛長)'s eldest son and Harumasa's adopted son, Gotō Moritoshi (五島盛利).
