In Hae (印海) was a military official and general of late Goryeo. His family seat was Gyodong (喬桐). He served as vice minister of the Ministry of Personnel (吏部侍郞) and as deputy commander of Yanggwang Province (楊廣道).
Life
He was the son of In Dang (印璫), who was recommended for office through the Hereditary appointment system during Goryeo and later served as Assistant Chief Councillor (僉議評理) and Vice Administrator of Government Affairs (參知政事).
He was born in Gaegyeong and spent a brief part of his early childhood in Gyodong, Yanggwang Province, and a brief part of his youth in Haeju, Seohae Province. Like his father, he was recommended through the Hereditary appointment system. Recommended in this way in 1348, he later served as vice minister of the Ministry of Personnel (吏部侍郞) during the reign of King Gongmin of Goryeo in 1351. In the first month of 1377 (the 3rd year of King U), In Hae became deputy commander of Yanggwang Province (楊廣道).
In the second month, Japanese pirates invaded Gyeongyang (慶陽) and then immediately entered Pyeongtaek County (平澤縣). In Hae fought against them but was unable to win.
In the fifth month, Japanese pirates again invaded Gyeongyang and Anseong County. Wang Ande (王安德), commander of Yanggwang Province, was timid and weak and did not fight. He summoned deputy commander In Hae and Hong Ingye (洪仁桂), commander of Yangcheon (陽川), and withdrew with them to stay at Gacheon Station (加川驛). He intended to intercept the enemy on their return route, but the enemy saw this and took a different road.1
In the ninth month, Japanese invaders plundered and burned Hongju (洪州), killed the wife of Magistrate Ji Deukcheong (池得淸), and captured the wife and children of the Magistrate's assistant (判官). Wang Ande and others, commanders of Yanggwang Province, were defeated while fighting at Nohyeon (蘆峴). The next day, the enemy again invaded Onsu County (溫水縣) and burned Isan Camp (伊山營). Commander In Hae and others fought at the Wooden Bridge (薪橋). At night, the enemy surrounded them on all sides, and the soldiers panicked and collapsed, resulting in many deaths. In the eleventh month, he was imprisoned in the Cheongju prison (淸州獄) and interrogated for the crime of being defeated at Isan.
In the ninth month of 1383 (the 9th year of King U), Japanese invaders attacked Gangneung Prefecture and Gimhwa County (金化縣), and then captured Hoeyang Prefecture (淮陽府) and Pyeonggang County (平康縣). Martial law was declared in the capital, and elite troops from Pyongyang and Seohae Province were conscripted to provide protection. Together with Nam Jwasi (南佐時), Former Chief Councillor (前政堂相議); An So (安紹), Chief Secretary of the Privy Council (知密直); Wang Seunggwi (王承貴), Wang Seungbo (王承寶), and Jeong Heegye (鄭熙啓), Councillors of the Privy Council (密直商議); Wang Bokmyeong (王福命) of Gaeseong County; and Gwak Seon (郭璇), Vice Commissioner of the Board of Works (判開府成事), he attacked the Japanese pirates, but was defeated while fighting at Gimhwa.2
