Privacy

What OpenHistory collects and how it is used.

Accounts

Signing up stores a username and a hashed password. No email is collected. A session cookie keeps you logged in.

Edits and opinions

Edits, discussions and opinions are public and available under CC BY-SA 4.0. Opinions posted without an account show the first two parts of the IP address; the address is kept only as an irreversible hash, to block abuse.

View and search counts

Trending lists count document views and searches per hour. Who viewed or searched is not stored.

Visit statistics (Google Analytics)

To improve the site we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits, time on site, device and country, and which features are used (map, search, opinions). It sets Google cookies. Ad personalisation and Google signals are off. To opt out, block cookies or use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).

Ads (Google AdSense)

To cover running costs we show Google AdSense ads. Google and its partners may use cookies to choose ads based on visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalised ads in Google Ad Settings (adssettings.google.com); details are at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
